I (ADP) was at the Food Security Investment Forum at ADB last week. There was an excellent opening speech by ex NZ PM Bolger. But it did create a stir in some quarters, whilst everyone has the same goal of ensuring food for the billions, all the different agendas are going to make this very difficult! All the agendas cannot be exclusive – the large farms are bad, anti-tech, anti-GM, anti-MNC, even anti-hybrid rice groups as well as the “tech is everything” group need to realize that many different systems will be needed to feed everyone-locally and globally i.e. the rural AND urban populations.How to get all these different groups to realize that is going to be the challenge. It is going to take real leadership to get this done.
